I’ve been in my role as Program Administrator for General Surgery since 1989.  Prior to taking on this position, I supported the Chief of General Surgery for 12 years.

The Division of General Surgery Program comprises of 31 residents and the following fellowships under the division; MIS Fellowship (1 position), Transplant Surgery Fellowship (2 positions), Colorectal Surgery Fellowship (1 position), Breast Fellowship (2 positions). As well as organizing medical students (15) who rotate through the department every 3 months. Throughout LHSC there are 26 surgeons in the Division of General Surgery, with subspecialties in colorectal, endocrinology, transplantation, hepatobiliary, trauma and pediatric general surgery. The division has a number of community area teaching staff, commonly referred to as Adjunct Professors, in Woodstock, St Thomas, Stratford, Strathroy, Windsor, Chatham and Owen Sound.  Reporting to the Director of the Program and the Chair/Chief and with minimal supervision, this position manages and coordinates all the administrative aspects of this program including the communications with PGME, UGME, residents, faculty, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, LHSC Human Resources, Lawson Health Research and Medical Affairs. Equally important, this position requires the ability to take initiative, be creative, and have the ability to multi-task in a highly demanding and fast paced environment. I enjoy my job because it allows me to work independently and have interpersonal relationships on a daily basis. I pride myself on being very well organized, open to suggestions and eager to learn knew things. I can honestly say that coming to work is a pleasure and I look forward to a new day every day.

Albert Schweitzer once said Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.

I absolutely love what I do!
